The tiny beach of Lygaria is situated at the northern coast of the island, very close to the very northern end of it. It is situated within a small cove, western to Aghios Georgios. The beach is open to the North and fully affected by the northern winds. The area around is not inhabited and the beach is totally remote and secluded.
Lygaria is a sandy beach with pebbles. The sea is very clean, crystal clear and if you come here, you will really enjoy the beach and the sea. As the beach is not organized at all, don’t forget to bring along anything that might facilitate your staying. In any case, take water with you and a snack if you are planning to stay long enough.
In any case of emergence, you have to go back to Chora.
In the past, access to the beach was possible only on foot, via a nice stone-paved path that still exists and departs just after the church of Aghios Andreas at Ano Meria and leads to the beach of Aghios Georgios. Apart from the path, today there is also a dirt track, good enough for 4WD cars and for the rented cars and scooters. From Ano Meria it will take some 10 to 15 minutes to arrive to the beach. You may also follow other paths, all leading to Aghios Georgios and departing from various places after Ano Meria. Several visitors come here by the excursion boats or by private yacht, provided there is no wind.
